A2Z Dharma & Whale-Connecting Tour at San Ignacio Lagoon, Mexico
March 18-25, 2023
A trip to see how these Engaged Four Noble Truths applies to this experience of past-eco-harm & present-restoration:
1. Harm has happened:
Whaling by humans in San Ignacio Lagoon is part of its harmful past.
Turtles were fished.
Now there are conservation efforts to save these beings by local and governmental scientific communities working together.
2. How is this due to causes & conditions?
Pachico’s is an example of how harm is being turned around in real time.
Research includes climate crisis aspects (with whales & turtles; fauna & birds)
3. How does individual & collective agency show up in this restoration effort?
How can you/we be part of this as people who go there?
How has Pachico’s and the town of San Ignacio been part of this?
How does the Mexican government support this work — for the San Ignacio community, the wildlife of the lagoon, and for the study of the impact of climate crisis in this secluded habitat?
4. How does the Eight-Fold Path empower restoration at the San Ignacio?
This is what we’re exploring on this trip through study, mindfulness— on and off the cushion —practices as we interact with the whales, the San Ignacio communities, and go on field trips to learn about the current studies by biologists at the lagoon.
We thank Pachico Ecotours for their support of us having this practice retreat. As A2Z Sangha, we are pleased to have this dedicated time to practicing seeing how the Dharma can be applied to daily life — especially in context of the current environmental crisis. Click HERE for more info & videos!
